The company was created in 1978 when the Self Family, who was instrumental in the development of Hilton Head Island, acquired Palmetto Dunes and lands that would later become Shelter Cove Harbour and began transforming them into world-class resort and residential communities.
The company developed a significant presence on Hilton Head Island over the years, helping Greenwood Development grow and thrive as a leader in the Southeast. In addition to Palmetto Dunes, Hilton Head projects include the Shelter Cove Marina, over 1,000 condominiums, a commercial park, the residential community Leamington, and luxury townhomes.
